I finally got a big chunk of music onto my phone and tried out Gapless. It does play music. But the user interface is built for desktop use. On the FLX1s the artist view can only view 3 artists at a time! (See screenshot.) Scrolling through that when you have a reasonable number of artists takes ages. I don't want to fight against an app that doesn't want to run on a phone. There are a ton of music players on the software store, but most don't look like they are very mature. It'd take me ages to find something actually built for mobile and with some real development work behind it. VLC would be my normal standby, but it also doesn't work on a phone very well. Does anyone have a suggestion to shortcut the process? Not interested in streaming anything, only local files.
I tried about 10 and most have the same issue as Gapless. Although far from perfect Lollipop is at least made for mobile and is best I've tried so far. I've only tried Linux apps because I can't seem to access my micro SD card with Android apps.

@robertjrey Lollypop has two columns, so it can fit _six_ artists in a list! Twice as good. At least that does technically count as a grid. Generally Lollypop indeed looks better. Thanks for the suggestion!
@furryboo That is indeed better. That option is not exactly discoverable. I would not have guessed that my screenshot was supposed to be a "grid". Generally, this looks like the app developers didn't really think about this form factor very carefully.
