Hello, in my ongoing efforts to setup this phone to be as functional as the phone it is intended to replace I need to setup some sort of mapping software. There is a really great piece of software called osmand(Open Street Maps And) that is easy to use and will work offline without a network connection. It is open source and does not appear to have any user tracking "features".
I see that the phone has mapping software bundled with it, however it does not appear that the software works offline (or online for that matter), and it does not have audible directions. Further, while I seemed to have accidentally got the software to setup a route, try as I may try I have been unable to repeat that feat and at any rate the software does not appear to offer audible turn by turn guidance which is a necessity.
OK, I got OSMAnd working-mostly. I did this by enabling the Android stuff in the settings app, which turned on the FDroid store. This actually solved a lot of my issues. Apps in the regular software store are made for a desktop environment whereas apps in the Fdroid store are made for mobile devices.
@jpitz I got OSMand working with voice prompts, I installed it through Fdroid and then in the OSMand app itself uncder voice settings you have to use pre recorded voices instead of TTS. It isn't as nice but it works.
