From within the "Contacts" app (Version 48) I cannot call or send send a SMS. I have the same app on my Librem 5 (Version 43.beta) where I can either call or send a text directly from the selected contact. Does anybody else experience the same problem?
In addition there are some design inconsistencies. Calls has a contact tab with functioning call links, chatty does not have a contacts tab. Ideally contacts default app should be defined in gnome-settings and any app that needs contact information would pull data from that app instead of recreating contacts within their own app.
e.g. add sms button in chatty would popup a window to search contacts with the contacts app delivered content

Interesting. I checked it and you are right you cant call from the "contacts app" but you call send e-mails and open websites from there. It seems like the flathub contacts ever had the ability to call from there. On Librem it is different because of downstream patches from purism themself.
All of these are upstream issues. Not that it would be cool to have everything working seamlessly :D. Because of this and some other things I started while a go my Phofono project which will solve all this problems (I actually tried to do the stuff for Calls, Chatty and Contacts first but it was way too complicated for my brains).
Use at your own risk and do not trust some stranger from internet. Some stuff is kind of hacky but it works for me and I test these things with high intense every day. https://gitlab.com/Alaraajavamma/phofono
