Is there a feature-request to enable access to the camera directly from the lock screen, without having to enter credentials (the way Android works)? And/or is there a repo where I could submit a patch?

I suggest to use the assistant button.
I use the "take picture option".
or do you request a lockscreen widget?

is the "assistant button" the programmable button on the left side of the phone, above the volume-control buttons? I haven't figured out how to configure that button, yet. Using the button would work well for me, but I'd be curious if the phone would still be locked after the picture was taken?

The Assistant Button can be configured under Control -> Assistant Button but it will not work when the system is locked.
