At some random point, the phone will stop having the screen timeout at all (whether locked or unlocked, so if there's an accidental button press in the pocket it'll just keep the screen on forever). On Forky 14. Is this a known issue or should I do some further troubleshooting?
Running "xdg-screensaver lock" in a terminal on the phone does still work (it doesn't when run remotely even as the furios user...but that's not too surprising). Perhaps a workaround would be to run that command whenever you turn the screen on but don't unlock after X seconds?
Try gnome-session-inhibit -l command and see what it gives you when this happens? This is allmost for sure because there is something inhibiting the system
