The delivery company that the device I ordered is presently with has requested an additional (roughly) $120 USD.
Is this normal when ordering FLX1 devices from Furilabs?
AFAIK different countries impose their own import taxes on top of the price that we charge (independent from us). i am guessing that is whats happening here. I will ask Wayne to take a look and he can have a give you a more correct answer
It appears to be import fees as you say, I have paid them now, but FYI for anybody ordering the FLX1 into the UK in the future, the total import fees are ‘£93.62’ (GBP) in my case.
We really feel your pain and it is detailed on our shipping page which I copy below. Sadly, we are too small to have any say in it like Amazon, Apple or Google etc do.
Please Note: We DON’T control what your country charges you when you buy something from overseas. Some countries like Germany and other EU countries can have large costs associated with shipping.Â
I don’t know how it is elsewhere but in the E.U. the largest part is VAT, which is different in each country, typically around 20% for goods like this. Additionally, some smaller custom duties may apply. This has nothing to do with shipping or the company selling the product. If the phone was imported by some company and then sold within the E.U., the same fees would apply but would be included in the end user price and payed by the company rather than charged separately on delivery. When imported individually, the recipients must pay those fees when the goods crosses the border; the shipping companies usually provide an (optional) service to do it on recipient’s behalf for some additional fee.
