I hope I'm not bringing something up that hasn't already been solved and if there is documentation I would appreciate a link to it. I just got the phone and it seems to be updated, at least it says it is up to date. I put in my sim card (AT&T in the US) and it shows 4 bars in the top left corner, greyed out and with an exclamation mark (!) over them.
Does not allow for calling or texting of any kind in this state. Tried putting it in sim 2 slot and it also didn't work.
Any help would be appreciated. I will likely go to sleep in the next couple of hours so not responding is not because I am not interested in solving the problem. Thanks!
Update: almost certainly not up to date. Just saw you have to go in to terminal to do that. However now every single app crashes including settings and the terminal whether I have sim in or out. Is ssh available without me turning it on? Going to try that next. Not sure what its ip address would be by default.
Factory Reset the device and updated from terminal. Still will not connect to att network. When I go to mobile network in settings it says "No WWAN Adapter Found"
AT&T and Verizon (including their MVNOs) only allow whitelisted devices onto their network which unfortunately the FLX1 is not. all users in the US are currently using it with T-Mobile and their MVNOs such as Mint. this is a sad reality we have to live until we can pay US carriers to allow our device too. this is not a hardware issue.
As others have mentioned, the FLX1 is not "approved" by AT&T. That doesn't mean the FLX1 won't work with AT&T though.
I have a PPP (PinePhone Pro), and I use AT&T with it no problem. Is it "approved" by AT&T, absolutely not. I learned that the hard way.
If you activate your AT&T SIM card with the FLX1 (or any other "unsupported" device, such as the PPP) then that SIM will refuse to work properly. What you have to do is activate the SIM in a "supported" device, and then move the SIM over to your FLX1.
Calls and texting should work then, but mobile data may not. If this is the case, set your APN to "NXTGENPHONE" (screenshot attached below).
I don't have an FLX1, but this is how I got AT&T working with my Linux phone (a PPP). Let me know if this works for anyone!
Just some ideas. SIM 2 is disabled, try only SIM 1. You need two rounds of "apt update && apt upgrade" (and a reboot) after a factory reset or the initial shipment of your phone. ssh: yes, see the FAQ entry.
@sve Have put it back in sim 1 which does not work. Seems to recognize that there is a sim inside the slot but doesn't want to communicate with the sim perhaps.
My first mistake was not updating but I have finished doing it as you say.
I think the issue is now probably that my phone is using some wrong setting to communicate with my carrier.
