We're excited to share the latest round of improvements to our Camera and Gallery apps. This release focuses on bringing the two experiences closer together, refining core interactions, and shipping a set of performance and stability fixes.
A Unified Photo Experience
The biggest structural change in this update is that Camera has been integrated directly into the Gallery app. Until now, the Camera app carried its own standalone gallery for reviewing recent shots. That separation meant duplicated functionality, inconsistent browsing behavior, and two interfaces to maintain.
With this update, everything lives in one place. Images captured with the Camera open straight into the Gallery, where you can review, organize, and edit them alongside the rest of your library. The standalone gallery inside Camera has been removed as a result. The capture-to-review flow is now simpler: take a photo, and it's immediately available in the Gallery with the full set of browsing and editing tools at your fingertips.
Camera Updates
Preset Zoom Selection
A new zoom selection pill has been added to the control bar. Instead of pinching to zoom or digging through menus, you can now tap preset zoom levels directly from the main capture screen. The pill clearly highlights the active zoom level, so you always know exactly where you stand before you take the shot.
Capture Animation
Saving an image now plays a short capture animation. Beyond the polish it adds, the animation gives clear visual confirmation that your photo was saved successfully, so you can move on to your next shot with confidence.
Gallery Updates
Drawing, Cropping and Filters
The Gallery gains a proper editing toolkit:
- Drawing to annotate images or make creative edits with freehand strokes
- Cropping to reframe photos quickly and dial in the perfect composition
- Filters to change the tone and mood of an image without leaving the app
Editing no longer requires bouncing between apps. Capture, review, and refine all happen in one seamless flow.
Performance Improvements
Performance has been improved across all widgets and operations in the Gallery. Scrolling through large libraries, opening images, and switching between views all feel noticeably snappier, especially on older hardware.
Fixes
Two notable issues were resolved:
- Incorrect image removal indexing. Under certain conditions, deleting an image could remove the wrong entry from the grid. Indexing during removal has been corrected so deletions always target the intended image.
- Memory issues from raw textures. Raw textures were not always released properly, which allowed memory usage to climb during long browsing sessions and could lead to instability. Texture lifecycle handling has been fixed, keeping memory usage steady over time.
